Gifts and Swaps and Snow, oh my!

February 17, 2009 - Leave a Response

I haven’t been updating the shop with new things lately…not because I haven’t been making things. Oh no. Remember that thing called the Superbowl? Remember how I don’t like football that much? Yea? Well, while Kyle and friends were downstairs watching the game, I was upstairs cutting like a crazy lady. I seriously cut out about 5 or 6 pleated pouches and 3 or 4 wristlets. Over the next week, I sewed up two of those wristlets and 3 of the pouches. The other ones have yet to be sewn because I don’t have the right zippers for them. Note to sef: order more zippers.

So anyway, I have yet to put the things I did sew in the shop because the weather lately has been so gloomy. It’s snowed some days and just been cloudy others. Of course, when I have to work at the coffee shop, the sun comes out and it’s a beautiful day. I can’t wait until this summer when it’s daylight all the time!

So since I can’t sew up those other items and I can’t photograph the things I did finish, I decided to get started on the baby gifts I planned to make. My boss, Heidi, is due March 31st and my cousin, Kristen, is due June 22nd. I’m not going to post Kristen’s gifts here until after she’s opened them. šŸ˜‰

These are Heidi’s. I made her two burp cloths, two wash cloths, and a blanket. I’m really pleased with how the blanket (the one with yellow trim) turned out! She’s having a girl and I was afraid this wasn’t girly enough but then I remembered that Heidi herself isn’t very girly.

Another thing keeping me away are a few swaps. I’m doing a grocery tote swap over on Craftster and a few ATC swaps on SISTV. I’ve finished my cards for the first ATC swap but I’m gonna wait a bit to do the cards for the second because they’re not due until late March. My next focus will be the grocery tote!

Inspire Me Wednesday: Week Two

This week’s IMW is unintentionally girly. Really girly.

mosaic6217530

One: Martha Stewart. I really like her and her craft supplies and her home products (over half the stuff in our house is from her line at Macy’s. I love every bit of it.) I’ve been watching her every morning and I love seeing allĀ of herĀ different baking and crafting projects. I could sit in the store and stare at her craft supplies forever.

Two: Wishcake. I love reading her blog and I love her shop. Everything is so cute and so well made. Check it out.

Three: Valentine’s Day! I love all the pink, red, and white that’s out this time of year.

Four: Confessions of a Shopaholic. I confess, I’ve never read the book and I doubt I’ll see the movie sinceĀ I have no girlfriends to see it with but Isla Fisher is terribly beautiful. Also? I have this thing for high fashion, I used to want to be a designer. I don’t really keep up with it but I love seeing it in movies and on TV. (I think that’s part of the reason I like SATC, all the fabulous clothes.) They don’t even have to be fabulous, I just like the bright, quirky stuff seen here and on Carrie and the girls.

Quick Post

February 10, 2009 - Leave a Response

Just a quick post to say that the Valentine’s giveaways are over. There should be a new one today but I’m working on things for a few swaps as well as planning out some baby gifts. I’ll be sure to share pictures when I’m all done!

Look for a new Inspire me Wednesday tomorrow, though. I’m compiling those images right now!

Nineteen entries! Thanks to everyone for joining in!

I asked you all what you love and I got a lot of different answers. Things that I love include: Cheerios (all kinds), tea, espresso drinks, my husband, and my cats. I could go on but I know you just want to know who won.

Inspire me Wednesday: Week One

February 4, 2009 - 4 Responses

Yesterday I had an idea. An idea that I should share with all of you what has been inspiring me lately. So every Wednesday, I’m going to post four things that have been inspiring me in hopes that they will spark something in you.

mosaic8319548

One: Amy Butler. I love her fabrics andĀ the ‘inspiration’ section of her site is full of gorgeous photos like this one.

Two: The Office. It’s my new love. I watch it when I’m sewing or working on paper things. It’s so good, why didn’t anyone make me watch it sooner?

Three: U2. I used to not like them (and I’m still not fond of Bono) but I finally found this CD (try to find it up here, I dare you) and I’ve been listening to it all the time. Pride (In the Name of Love) is more wonderful than I had ever realized.

Four: My day job. Yes, I’m inspired by my day job. I make coffee. How great is that?Ā I get to make fancy coffee drinks and smoothies and I get paid for it. Some of my customers are so amazingly sweet and always happy to get their coffee, even if they have to wait a little longer because I’m busy with another customer. I’m trying to work on my patience (as I have been for years) and this is certainly helping.

Sicky McSick

I apologize for the lack of giveaway this week. Sunday, I was horribly sick with what I thought was food poisoning. Turns out, it was, more than likely, stomach flu because Monday? Kyle was just as sick. Tuesday morning was spent at the doctor with Kyle, hoping they had an appointment open for him. They didn’t so Wednesday morning was also spent at the dr. After we got done there, I went to the university to take the CLEP (I passed, yay!) All this while having to work in the afternoons. I’m exhausted.

The point of this post wasn’tĀ just toĀ tell you all not to come to my house because you’ll surely get sick, I also wanted to show off some things that will be coming to the shop soon!

You guys had some good picks! My favorite love song has to be “In My Life” by the Beatles. I wanted that to be our wedding song but Kyle didn’t like it so we went with “Open Arms” by Journey. Still a good one, though. Anyway, on to the winner!

Congrats, Reeva! I’ll email you in a bitĀ  to get your address!

It’s a little late, but it’s here! Kyle and I both had yesterday off so, aside from grocery shopping, it was a little bit of a lazy day.

Anyway, on to the giveaway…

I have to be honest…I’ve never seen any of the movies you guys mentioned! I don’t watch movies that often, I can never sit still long enough. šŸ˜‰

One of my favorites is Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire.

Anyway, on to the winner!
